Statement to voters
I was born and raised in the North East of England.
Full statement
For many years, Newcastle was my home. My family is proudly working class, with strong connections to the trade union movement. I’m an award winning journalist for national and international newspapers. I’ve also written for Newcastle-based titles. I know the problems this area faces. I also know the usual politicians don’t care about solving them. I am seeking election as an independent candidate for Newcastle Central & West as I find myself politically homeless. Rather than waiting around for a political party that exactly matches my principles, I decided to be the change I want to see in the world. The more independent MPs there are in Parliament, the stronger our individual voices become, and the stronger the chances of electoral reform. I’m not a single-issue candidate but I am single-minded in my ambition for what this city could achieve with vision and investment.
