Statement to voters
Croydon’s Tory mayor has increased council tax
by 33% since 2023.Full statement
Every council service has faced
cuts, job losses, and austerity. How many more politicians will vote for more devastating cuts and council tax increases to make up for the loss of central government funding? In 2024, Labour promised change but all we got was the same old cruel Tory policies. They all say “better our cuts than their cuts” and continue to make us pay for the system’s crisis. They put the interests of the wealthy 1% elite first. They give contracts to private property developers rather than implementing a mass programme of council house building and introducing rent controls.
Despite voicing opposition, the Greens don’t go far enough to stand up to Starmer’s austerity. They also have a bad record wherever they have been in power. We want to work with any Green candidate who pledges not to make any cut
But we need real anti-austerity councillors who will vote for no-cuts needs budgets and campaign with our communities and trade unions to win back the millions stolen from our borough. Councils can fight cuts and twist the government’s arm into paying up, instead of forcing workers to pick up the bill.
As a member of the Socialist Party, I am standing as part of the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition to fight exactly for that. As a trade unionist, I argue for a new party based on the working class. A party that will take on the establishment parties and put forward a socialist alternative to war and austerity.
VOTE FOR A SOCIALIST MAYOR WHO WILL FIGHT FOR THE MONEY AND RESOURCES CROYDON NEEDS!
WE NEED A BUDGET BASED ON OUR NEEDS NOT CUTS!
No more council tax hikes! Don’t make us pay to make up for the loss of central government funding.
Reverse Tory-Labour cuts. For a no-cuts needs-based
budget and building a campaign to win the money Croydon needs. Demand the money from the Labour government.End the cycle of knife crime - campaign for jobs and services for young people. End racist policing - for
democratic working-class control of the police and future
anti-knife crime initiatives.Cut bills - we won’t pay for Trump’s war! Nationalise energy under democratic working-class control and management, with no compensation.
