Full statement

It’s time for change.

Whilst our current MP endorsed Liz Truss’s disastrous economic policies, Labour has a costed and optimistic vision for the future. I promise to deliver on the things that matter to you, putting people over politics and representing our towns and villages with pride.

Bradley Phillips

In a Nutshell … I am a dedicated public servant with experience working in education and the voluntary sector across Hampshire. Like many, I’ve relied on our public services throughout my life – particularly the NHS, after I was diagnosed with arthritis aged 3. I know how important these services are for so many, and improving them is my biggest priority.

My Story I’m 25 years old and was born and raised in Basingstoke.

I have overcome numerous challenges which have shaped my values and passions today. At the age of 3 I was diagnosed with arthritis, meaning that I have relied on the NHS from an early age.

My father worked as a train driver and then lorry driver. My mother is disabled and raised us as a single mum. My family has faced financial hardship and, at times, has had to rely on food banks.

We fell between the cracks in the social security system for ordinary families. Caring for my mum – alongside my sister – has further deepened my understanding of our society’s support structures and the desperate need for a real solution to our health and social care crisis.

As a proud gay man I am a strong advocate for the importance of equality, inclusion and representation at all levels of society.

My Future Plan If elected, I promise to listen to your concerns, represent your interests, and earn your trust.

Labour’s plan for growth will deliver the stability our local businesses and public services need to thrive.

I will strive for investment in our local economy and hold government to account, locally and nationally, to make sure we are delivering for you.

Fighting for North East Hampshire Here in North East Hampshire, we have an opportunity to shape society with a fairer, stronger and more compassionate politics.

This part of the country has never seen so much attention. Our neighbouring constituencies, such as Basingstoke and Aldershot, have received widespread attention in their battle to achieve Labour representation in Westminster.

Here in our constituency we have a chance to reshape electoral history too. As we well know, the seat of North East Hampshire has historically been safely Conservative. That may be about to change.

Polling and industry projections show that there is a significant number of voters wishing to vote for Labour in North East Hampshire in 2024. Many (most!) project Labour polling second behind the Conservatives, as in the 2017 General Election.

For more details, see our page Tactical Voting in North East Hampshire

The local Liberal Democrats have been fighting a dubious campaign framing their candidate as the ‘tactical vote’ to oust Ranil Jayawardena. This ploy risks misleading the electorate and we must push back on it wherever we come across it.

The Labour Party is fighting for every vote, nationally and locally.
