Statement to voters
My name is Alexander Curtis, and I am standing for election as your local Conservative Councillor for Hoddesdon Town and Rye Park this May.
Full statement
I recently moved to Hoddesdon, though I have lived locally for almost my entire life. For almost 8 years, I have served as a councillor in Ware, where I built up a strong track record of delivering for people and local businesses. As someone with extensive experience in local government, I know how to get things done for residents from Day 1. By working closely with the local Conservative administration at Broxbourne Borough Council, I can be trusted to ensure that the residents, community groups and local businesses of Hoddesdon and Rye Park are listened to, so that we can maintain all the good things about our area whilst making improvements where they are needed.
Broxbourne Borough Council has the lowest council tax precept of any unparished district in England, thanks to the shrewd stewardship of its Conservative administration. Broxbourne Conservatives run an efficient operation at the borough council, with waste kept to a minimum and money kept in your pocket. A vote for me is a vote to keep it that way.
Broxbourne Conservatives are also attracting billions of pounds of inwards investment to the Borough, a record pretty much unrivalled by any other district of its size across the UK. Many thousands of jobs are being created locally through the efforts of the Conservative administration at Broxbourne Borough Council, including at the new Sunset Studios. A vote for me is a vote to continue creating rewarding jobs locally, with a clear plan for upskilling local people into these roles.
We are also backing Hoddesdon Town Centre, with plans to spend over £1 million on meaningful improvements to it. Furthermore, Broxbourne Conservatives are investing in the borough’s parks and open spaces, something that I would not let Hoddesdon Town & Rye Park miss out on as your local councillor. Keeping the lives of our young people on track and combatting anti-social behaviour are key local priorities for me as well.
I grew up locally, attending a local comprehensive before receiving a first class degree from the University of Oxford. I subsequently studied for masters degrees at both University College London and the School of Oriental and African Studies. A scientist by training, I am a keen problem-solver who has a strong track record of delivering results rather than just talking about doing things. As a small businessman, I am a natural advocate for the self-employed and those working in small and medium-sized businesses. As a trustee of a regional charity working with people with learning difficulties, complex mental health needs and dementia, I can be counted on to stand up for those most in need in our local community.
In my professional life, I started my career working in economic and social affairs roles for the United Nations secretariat, including in Africa. More recently, I have moved into the private sector, where I work primarily on the mining, refining and import/export of precious metals. I am a conviction conservative, who values community, enterprise, hard work, national pride, our natural environment and personal responsibility.
Please get in contact with me if you have any questions by emailing me at office@broxbourneconservatives.com. I hope I can count on your support this May to ensure that Hoddesdon Town and Rye Park continues to have strong representation at the local decision-making table.
