Lucy has lived most of her life in New Malden.
Full statement
A teacher by profession, she has also volunteered locally with Kingston Hospital, the Kingston Environment Centre and the Malden & Coombe Horticultural Society, as well as organising litter picks with the Green Party. Lucy stood for the Green Party in New Malden in the Council elections of 2022. With 10% of the votes, she was in fourth place after the three Lib Dem Councillors who were elected.
"I loved growing up in New Malden and chose to come back here to raise my own family. New Malden is a wonderful place, but when I've spoken to residents, many people are unhappy with the level of overdevelopment here, and feel that New Malden has been taken for granted as somewhere which can just absorb more buildings. If I were elected as Councillor I would stand up for the interests of local people and do my best to keep New Malden as a great place to live. For example, the Sure Start centre in Burlington Road was so helpful for me as a new parent. This has now sadly gone, and if I were elected as Councillor, I'd campaign for New Malden to get one of the new Best Start Family Hubs which are currently being rolled out.
As a teacher, I've had the privilege of working with students who are preparing for their A levels and university applications, and I've seen the immense amount of pressure our young people are under. If I were elected as Councillor I'd campaign for the needs of young people and families, including their mental health, to be prioritised. Of course, as a Green, I understand the vital importance of green spaces for our mental health - protecting our parks and our natural environment is a top priority for me too."
