Statement to voters

I’ve spent my working life in education and international development, and I have lived in Kingston for 15 years, having moved from the borough of Lewisham to be near family.

Full statement

My roots are in a Welsh mining village and Liverpool, so standing up to power is in my DNA. I have been a Labour supporter all my life, though I was happily married for many years to a Liberal Democrat supporter.

I believe we urgently need a return to a more polite and rational political discourse, and that is even more important now than it was three years ago. We need calm thinking, careful analysis and practical solutions rather than slogans and rhetoric, and a commitment to helping those who are less well off.

Amongst the many challenges we face, the overriding one is the Climate Emergency, even while the cost of living is front of mind for many families. Better-insulated homes would make a real difference, reducing both energy bills and emissions.

I spent much of my adult life living and working in Africa, and have worked as a teacher and in international development.

I am active in faith, community and charity affairs.

In my spare time I play bridge and visit Kew Gardens.
