Statement to voters

Christopher has lived for 26 years in St Mary's & StJames' since 2000.

Full statement

He was influenced by his step father a long time Labour Councillor in Lewisham to become active locally. As a new resident in 2001 he secured funding for Cross street parking improvements and a new zebra crossing. He is an architect specialising in retrofitting homes for low energy / low carbon and new passive houses. He was course leader for Technical Studies, MA Architecture, Royal College of Art for 8 years.

After the UK declared Climate Emergency 2019, he campaigned for Islington to rethink local planning to encourage innovation. He realized that 50% of the borough is within conservation areas and without heritage climate retrofit the borough would not be able to reduce resident’s energy and fuel costs. During covid he researched one Islington Conservation Area to see where reductions could be made. He collaborated with and wrote the heritage section of the influential UK 2021 ‘Climate Emergency Retrofit Guide’ by LETI.

Christopher campaigned with the Islington Environmental Alliance and the Green Conservation Petition which gathered 2,221 signatures forcing a debate in council for proactive heritage climate retrofit in July 2023. During Covid his Islington conservation area research became a toolkit for action. His drafts were not well received by Islington planners, but the work was published in March 2023 as, "Climate Emergency Conservation Area Toolkit- England". Launched at several trade shows, 500 hard copies sold out (more pdfs) reaching councils, architects, and planners across the country. These multiple resident-led campaigns pressured, Islington to renew and fund work on the overdue "Climate Action SPD" and the "Retrofit Handbook" published in September 2025. Christopher supplied his book to the council and extensive edits to the planning policy team to radically change the early drafts and make sure the new Islington documents would be current.

Christopher said, "I bring passion, detail and expertise for the work ahead. I have now finished my second book on rapidly changing new vacuum glazing window technology, which was briefly mentioned in the 2023 book. It will be launched at FutureBuild one week after the election."

If elected he will bring his expertise and energy to campaigning within the council in areas of climate retrofit, planning reform, rethinking Islington housing (particularly Community Land Trusts), and green space street improvements to make Islington a viable community adapting to future uncertainty.
