Statement to voters

With a by-election confirmed for West Chesterton this May, former Cllr Jamie Dalzell is standing for city council to fight for a fair deal for Cambridge.

Full statement

Jamie was City Councillor for West Chesterton from 2018 - 2022

With a 20-year career in accountancy working in a range of different sectors, Jamie is currently Head of International Finance for a large charity based in Cambridge.

He married his wife, Cheney, at Shire Hall during the 2020 lockdown and lives locally with their two cats.

He used his financial skills as a City Councillor, acting as the Lib Dem lead for Finance and then for Housing. In these roles, Jamie consistently campaigned for a just transition to net zero, investment in community facilities and to deliver the best possible outcomes for homeless people.

Jamie is a passionate supporter of community engagement on major projects. He is fighting against the government’s plans for a development corporation that would take decisions away from locally accountable representatives

As a Councillor, Jamie worked with the police to tackle drug dealing in our area and with the council to address anti-social behaviour at Midsmmer Fair and helped secure the Tivoli site for our community. Jamie says, “People tell us they had great hopes for the Labour government, but the reality is disappointing.

Labour has slashed funding for vital services like street cleaning and public toilets. The Lib Dems will stop these cuts and stand up for a cleaner, better Cambridge. The roads across Cambridge badly need fixing. The Lib Dems are demanding fair funding to make long-overdue repairs. While Labour take voters for granted, we will hold them to account on key issues like Europe.

If elected, Ian, Rory, Fionna and I will ensure our area is not taken for granted by Labour."
