Malcolm is a successful local businessman who is a recognised expert in medico-legal law. A retired magistrate, former chairman of Biggin Hill Residents Association, former chairman of Orpington Liberal Democrats and former chairman of Bromley Mencap Appeals Committee. His family as been in Biggin Hill since the 1700s. He stood as a candidate for the Biggin Hill ward in 1978 and 1982.
