Statement to voters
Greetings, I am Calum McGillivray.
Full statement
I am a North Londoner first and a Conservative second. Over the last few years I have gotten fed up with the lack of attention that our region receives from the London Assembly and the Mayor's office and I hope to be the catalyst for change.
By trade, I am a real estate accountant and have been for many years. I have worked on several of the most iconic buildings from our great city’s skyline and so am used to working with large numbers, working within budget, and making money stretch. The Assembly needs someone like me to not only fight for the residents of Enfield and Haringey, but actually achieve measureable results by challenging the mayor to utilise TFL's brownfield sites for residential properties, thus leaving our greenfield sites untouched, which will increase stocks for both rental and homeownership properties. Also, the expansion of the Edmonton incinerator by 30%, when it is already the country's largest, needs to be stopped immediately. There are more appropriate non-urbanised sites for this.
If you are kind enough to lend me your vote and elect me to office, then I promise to work tirelessly for the next 4 years to undo the years of neglect and mismanagement that our local electives have regrettably either ignored or personally overseen. I honestly believe that if we can restore people's pride in their homes, through local development and investment, then crime rates will fall to a level at which they become easier to get a hold of and we can start to undo the damage that Sadiq Khan has done. There is no silver bullet. It will require hard word.
I refuse to believe that the Met and TFL are beyond saving. These are world-renowned establishments which should invoke a sense of pride within every Londoner in the same way that they used to when my parents were young. I will challenge the mayor to restore these to their former levels through closer management of performance and financials. Your Assembly members are uniquely positioned to achieve that change and I promise each and every one of you that I would not waste the opportunity.
I believe that the whole of North London can, and one day will, be a safe, affordable, and beautiful place to live. But we cannot be complacent. Sometimes a little encouragement is required. Please allow me to act as that encouragement in the London Assembly on your behalf.
Yours faithfully,
Calum McGillivray.
Conservative candidate for the London Assembly.
