Statement to voters
Hello everyone!
I'm Paul McCord the Lydiate and Maghull Community independents candidate for Maghull East Ward.
Full statement
I have lived in Lydiate and Maghull since 2009 and actually lived in Maghull East Ward itself so hope to be elected to represent them. I live 2 minutes walk away from Maghull East.
I am also a Parish Councillor for Lydiate Parish Council which is within Maghull West and Lydiate Ward. Out of the 9 councillors, 7 are community independents.
There are many issues which concern me in the ward which is why I wish to stand to try to help our community. A major issue at the moment is the potential of building houses on farmland adjacent to Lambshear Lane which I am vehemently against. This is in Lydiate but will affect the whole area.
There are also other major issues affecting the locality such as the new build estate next to Poverty Lane, and how the builders so far have not created a spine road which has placed incredible strain on Poverty Lane.
Another is the issues affecting the Poppyfields Estate, especially the builders neglect of the lake.
All these new builds are built on flood plains so may be affected by flooding.
Section 106 money which builders pay the council for the privilege of building on this land should be spent on the area but most of it isn't.
All of these above issues will be addressed by me and other community independent councillors.
A major ongoing issue we are against is the double rating council tax payers in Maghull and Lydiate are paying for park maintenance. This has been going on for 8+ years at at least 100k for Maghull and 40k for Lydiate, per year!
The beauty of being a local independent is that you can fight for the local area and its community without being held back by a national party who wants you to do their bidding.
I am a traditional socialist and trade unionist who believes it is the working class who creates the wealth in this country and therefore be the recipients of that wealth.
I hope that you have enjoyed reading my profile, and if you live in Maghull East Ward, that I can count on your vote come May 7th.
Solidarity.
Paul.
