Statement to voters

I’m Rosy Greenlees and I am standing to be a City Councillor for Romsey because I want to give back to the community and the city I have lived in for 30 years.

Full statement

I have been knocking on doors for several months hearing residents' views and listening to their concerns.

I will be your local champion acting on your issues big or small. Romsey has a great diversity which is seen in its many communities, shops and places of worship.

My focus will be on:

  1. Build communities, not just homes
    Tackle anti-social behaviour, champion local communities and protect green spaces.
    Residents want clean and sage public spaces. I will work with local community groups and resident associations to ensure we have a tidy and well kept locality and that we improve our green spaces. I will lobby the County Council to improve terrible state of our roads and improve safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.

  2. Cambridge homes for all residents
    Continue building a new generation of homes and support residents in need. Labour is protecting private renters, funding new council staff to support tenants and tackle rogue landlords. I will work with residents and the council staff to protect tenants and ensure that housing in Romsey is fit for purpose.

  3. Champion our diverse community in Romsey
    Creating an equal, safe and green Romsey where all residents, local businesses and visitors feel welcome and supported.
    Mill Road is the heart of our community, My vision is to make it the best street for independent shops serving our local residents and Councillors on both sides of Mill Road bridge. I will work to secure funding to enhance the streetscape, improve the environment and make the street safe for everyone.

If elected I will

  • hold regular public surgeries for advice and help;
  • regularly walk the ward to report potholes, fly-tipping and other local issues;
  • be your voice on the City Council to ensure that your views are listened to when making decisions.

I have had a lifelong career in the arts and as Executive Director of the Crafts Council I was awarded an OBE in 2017. I am now chair two arts charities and also undertake mentoring. I have run organisations and worked in partnership with local communities, dealt with national government and funders; as well as with local authorities.
If elected I will bring this experience to Romsey.
