Statement to voters

I’m Tom Atkin-Withers, a local resident just like you, and your Green Party candidate for Graves Park in the upcoming 7th May local elections.

Full statement

I’m a charity trustee working with young people, and through that work I see first-hand the challenges facing families in our area, across our city, and nationally. I’m also an active member of the Graves Park community, and what I hear most often on the doorstep is frustration about poor and inaccessible public transport across the ward, and despair that people aren’t being listened to. Frankly, it makes me as angry as it makes you.

I actively stand up for Graves Park
The current Labour and Liberal Democrat councillors have failed to stand up for Graves Park residents. I want to change that. Over the last year alone, driven by concerns raised by local people, I have:
Worked with Green councillors to push for better transport links between Graves Park and Chesterfield Hospital
Secured repairs to damaged bus stops across our area
Helped secure the prompt resurfacing of the new crossing by Meadowhead School after a resident was injured
Launched a petition to get Osmaston Road adopted and resurfaced
Worked to keep our green spaces litter free

Unlike other parties Greens drive change
While Labour and the Lib Dems keep things the same, the Greens are working hard to improve the city we all love. From Climate Bonds that allow residents to fund solar panels on our children’s schools, to protecting our environment from toxic pesticides and fighting for better-funded public transport, we’re focused on practical action that improves everyday life.

I can win here and bring hope back to Sheffield.
Neighbouring wards like Gleadless Valley, Nether Edge & Sharrow, and Ecclesall already have Green councillors, and across the country the Green Party is growing as more people respond to a hopeful, honest alternative to politics as usual.

As your councillor, my priority would be simple: delivering local results. Standing up for our communities, protecting public services, creating secure green jobs, and making sure everyone has access to decent housing, clean air,
and a strong local economy.
Sheffield’s future should be shaped by the people who live here.
Together, we can build it.
