Statement to voters
Dear Resident, I am seeking your vote as the Independent Candidate to represent Ashtead Lanes and Common Ward on the District Council.
Full statement
I am a local man: I grew up in this area, and moved to my current home near Barnett Wood Lane in 1995. I am a journalist and editor by profession. I have been actively involved with local conservation charities for many years, campaigning to protect our beautiful countryside. My children and grandchildren all grew up in Ashtead and I am determined to fight to preserve its special quality of rural tranquillity. If elected to represent Lanes & Common Ward, I will work with my fellow Ashtead Independent councillors to prioritise the interests of our village and keep Ashtead a green and pleasant place. It is the rural character of Ashtead that makes it so special, and we are extremely fortunate to have nature reserves such as Ashtead Common, Rye Brook Meadows and Ashtead Park on our doorstep. I am passionate about protecting our woodlands, parks and green spaces which I believe are absolutely vital for nature and wildlife as well as for people’s health and wellbeing. If you care about our village as much as I do, please vote for me, your local Independent candidate, in the MVDC election on Thursday 2nd May. Andy Smith
