Full statement

Find out more about Samuel in this Q&A article What is your background?

Born in the Royal Calderdale Hospital, I have lived and worked in Calderdale all my life. I recently graduated from the University of Leeds with a master's degree in History. Tell us about your career.

For the last ten years, I have worked in a local textile factory which specialises in piled fabric. It is one of only two factories in the UK which specialise in this material, both for which are right here in Calderdale. Being one of the third generation of my family to work in this line of business, I first entered it to cover the cost of my university tuition. Although employed primarily in data entry, I often carry out a wide range of tasks within the Knitting Department, chiefly tending to knitting machines. However, I do ultimately wish to pursue a career where I can put my history degrees to good use. What are your hobbies?

My hobbies include walks in the local countryside, going to the gym, reading alternate history, science-fiction, political thriller, and modern classic books, watching films, and cooking.

Why are you running for election?

There are many problems facing our community, and the country at large. A housing shortage, a climate crisis, underfunded and understaffed public services, and – particularly here in the 'Happy Valley' – a drug problem. These issues affect everyone but will impact younger generations the hardest. I wish to bring about positive change for Halifax and the United Kingdom, and to represent those desperately in need of a voice. Why vote for Liberal Democrats rather than Labour or Conservative?

The Conservatives' track record for the past fourteen years is marked by deceit, disaster, and decline. Labour promise that 'things can only get better' but are either parroting Conservatives talking points or backtracking on concrete policies that would deliver change. But only the Liberal Democrats have the policies and the commitment to change society, the country, and the world for the better. How can people make a difference and get involved locally?

Anyone can get involved locally in different ways. You can support our campaign by canvassing with us, helping us to deliver leaflets during Action Days, contributing a donation, and casting your vote for us come Election Day. No contribution is too small, and we appreciate any support you can give. Thank you. How can people contact you?

You can reach me via email at samueljackson.halifaxlibdem@outlook.com. You can also phone me on 07940 254789 however I will have my phone off when i'm at work in the textile factory.
