Statement to voters

Vote Steel and Victoria and make hope normal again

I’m Steel Horton, I live in Langshott and I’m standing for you in the new East Surrey Council because I believe Horley and our wider community deserve leaders who listen, who act with integrity, and who are ready to get stuck in to solve the real problems we face every day.

Full statement

For too long, we’ve seen neglect, empty promises, and a system that feels disconnected from our needs. Whether it’s crumbling roads, unsafe streets, a lack of affordable homes, or the urgent climate crisis, we know that change is possible, but it requires experience, courage, and a genuine commitment to our local area.

As your Green Party candidate, I’ll work to deliver the change that we need. My vision is simple: a place where every resident has access to the services, infrastructure, and financial stability they need to thrive.

Here is what Victoria and I will fight to achieve if elected:

  • Fix Our Roads and Make Streets Safer: I will push for better maintenance, introduce 20mph zones around schools, and expand safe cycling and walking routes to protect our families.
  • Build Genuinely Affordable Homes: I will prioritise socially rented housing to address waiting lists while fiercely protecting our Green Belt and ensuring new developments come with the schools, doctors, and transport we actually need.
  • Lead on Climate Action: From retrofitting homes to lower energy bills to decarbonising council operations by 2030, I will make climate action the heart of every decision.
  • Invest in Our Families and Vulnerable Residents: I will work to expand children’s centres, improve mental health support in schools, and ensure our adult social care is person-centred and dignified.
  • Bring Services Back In-House: I believe in holding power to account. I will work to bring key services like waste management and bus operations back under local control to improve quality and accountability.
  • Divest and Invest Ethically: I will push to divest council pensions from fossil fuels and invest in sustainable alternatives that benefit our local economy.
  • Revitalise Our Communities: I will support the reopening of arts venues, invest in sports facilities, and use vacant high street spaces for community purposes to bring people together.

My colleague Victoria and I are ready to work hard for Horley. We are not afraid of the tough jobs, and we won’t be silenced by those in power. We believe in fairness, honesty, and hope.

Let’s build a safer, greener, and kinder Horley together.

Vote Steel and Victoria and make hope normal again.
