Full statement

Let me tell you a little about myself: what makes me tick, my family life, my political ethos, and why on earth I'm venturing into politics.

Turning 50 this year, I've shared nearly a quarter of a century of adventures with my husband, Gordon, a true Wimbledon native whose roots run deep in this verdant soil.

Gordon was born in Nelson Hospital, now Nelson Health Centre, and raised in South Wimbledon. He and his siblings went to Pelham Primary School, and my brothers-in-law then went to Wimbledon Chase.

Together, Gordon and I are blessed with three energetic sons—Oscar, Hugo, and Theo—and our faithful labradoodle companion, Strider—named after a favourite character in The Lord of the Rings—who adds a touch of whimsy to our lives.

Our family thrives on activity and a zest for life, finding solace and excitement in the green expanses of Wimbledon Common and Wimbledon Park. It's here, amidst nature's embrace, that we let off steam and recharge our batteries before facing life's next challenge: a visit to the grandparents!

Speaking of which, they have lived in Wimbledon for almost 60 years, and, having been regular attendants for just as long, my father-in-law is now an Elder at Trinity United Reformed Church. My mother-in-law would love it if we moved in next door. But that's a conversation for another day...

Like many of us, I've lived and worked in different corners of the globe. However, there's something special about Wimbledon that keeps on pulling me back. I've developed a profound appreciation for the unique tapestry of Wimbledon's charm and spirit.

Let's face it, politics as usual has left many feeling disillusioned and disenchanted. I share the sentiment that it's time for a different approach. And that's where I come in. I want to do politics differently.

I'm not your typical politician; I bring a dash of dynamism and a wealth of real-world experience to the table. As a former British triathlete with a knack for business and trade, I understand the value of grit and determination in overcoming obstacles.

For me, governance isn't about empty promises or political posturing; it's about rolling up our sleeves and tackling challenges head-on, together. I'm a believer in the power of enterprise, innovation, and common-sense solutions to drive progress. I recognise the transformative potential of education in driving social mobility, on which so many other outcomes depend.

From navigating the complexities of family life to representing my country on the global stage, I've honed my convictions and my resolve. I'm passionate about making a tangible difference, both in the lives of individuals and in safeguarding our natural environment for future generations.

As Wimbledon's champion, I'm committed to being a problem solver, bridging divides, and fostering a sense of unity within our vibrant community.

If you're ready for someone who's not afraid to step up to the tough challenges of modern life, and if you're ready for someone who unashamedly gets things done, then let's work together to make Wimbledon an even better place for all.

Thank you for reading. If you want to know more, please continue.

BUSINESS

I understand and support small businesses.

Growing up, my father, a highly respected research scientist in organic chemistry, spearheaded our family's venture. It began with an experiment conducted in our kitchen oven, with a wishbone from a Sunday roast thrown in. This endeavour yielded a breakthrough: an active ingredient central to catalytic convertors in cars worldwide.

Witnessing the power of a simple idea born at our kitchen table, I learned firsthand how British innovation coupled with a can-do attitude can spark a global impact. Tragically, I lost both my parents, my guiding lights, to cancer. Yet that legacy endures, instilling in me the belief that solid science aligned with sound finances can bring about transformative change for the better.

Following university life, I honed my skills in the demanding environment of London's financial district, mastering technical precision and thriving under pressure.

My career path led me to the realm of exports, collaborating with British diplomatic missions to address global demands with British solutions. From exporting leadership training (RMA Sandhurst) to advising on highlighting British excellence, I've championed our nation's interests worldwide, particularly spotlighting local enterprises, the backbone of the British economy.

Post-the pandemic, witnessing the struggles of local businesses inspired me to lend a hand. Presently, I lead a dedicated team, revitalising local economies by boosting foot traffic, increasing efficiencies, and facilitating employment opportunities.

SPORT

As a two-time triathlon World Championships representative for Great Britain, I understand the discipline and resilience required for high-performance athletic qualities, which are equally crucial when it comes to fighting for Wimbledon & the Maldens in Parliament, getting things done, and developing good policy.

Active involvement in local associations and serving as a parish councillor have only bolstered my endurance. I'm committed to representing the diverse interests of our strong community with the same rigour that I brought to my athletic pursuits.

Moreover, I advocate passionately for inclusive sports participation, recognising its role in fostering well-being and community cohesion. That’s why access to a variety of green spaces in Wimbledon & the Maldens is non-negotiable. They are not just essential but also a source of joy and connection for residents.

FAMILY

My most significant role is that of a mother to three boys—a role that continuously challenges and fulfils me. Having experienced both stay-at-home and working motherhood, I empathise with the joys and struggles of balancing familial and professional responsibilities.

I'm ambitious for our young people and strive to ensure every child receives the support and encouragement needed to reach their full potential. With two of my boys diagnosed with dyslexia, I intimately understand the hurdles parents face in nurturing children, especially those with learning differences.

So, this is me—a small business champion, a sports enthusiast, and a mum on a mission. I'm ready to roll up my sleeves and make a difference.
