Jacob Cousens's policies
Statement to voters
As a young person that lives in Kingsteignton, I see first-hand every day the damage that 14 years of Tory chaos has done to communities across our constituency.
Full statement
Rishi Sunak's out of touch Conservative government has crashed the economy, trashed Britain's public services and burdened hardworking families in Newton Abbot with the highest taxes since the second world war.
The promise of a Labour government has never been cause for greater optimism for families across Newton Abbot. Keir Starmer's pledge to build 1.5 million new homes, establish GB Energy to make Britain a clean energy superpower, create a new publicly owned railway company Great British Rail, offer 2 million more NHS appointments per year to clear the backlog offers the people of Newton Abbot a stark alternative to the chaos and mismanagement of the last 14 years.
As someone who works locally in hospitality, I am passionate about Labour's vision for the future of work where working people enjoy dignity, gain security, receive respect, and are supported to prosper. The Labour Party has a long and proud history of being the Party not just of working people but for working people. From day one, a Labour government will strengthen workers' rights and make Britain work for working for people in Newton Abbot. Our country remains riven by inequalities which Labour is focused on fixing -- to ensure the working people who create our nation's wealth get their fair share of it.
I'm standing to give Newton Abbot the fresh start it so desperately needs. It's time for change in South Devon and I am determined to fight tooth and nail and give everything I have to represent the people of Newton Abbot as the town's MP and provide the effective local representation we so desperately need.
