Statement to voters

Adam Boon, Wigan Central Labour Candidate.

Full statement

My name is Adam Boon and I’m proud to stand as labour’s candidate for Wigan Central.

My family has served the people of Wigan for generations. My grandparent’s ran Boon‘s chemist on Market Street in the 60’s and 70’s and also the Post Office in Worsley Hall, later continued by my Dad.

One of my uncles has served as a solicitor in Wigan for many years, another uncle worked teaching at Wigan Tech and my mum and sister have devoted decades to the NHS - with my mum giving over 30 years of nursing care to our community. Service is in my blood.

I was born and bred in Wigan. I grew up around Standish and spent a lot of time around Worsley Hall and central Wigan, surrounded by a big family and a strong community. After college I worked in security across Wigan - from Robin Park and the Grand Arcade to King Street nightlife - protecting vulnerable people working alongside police and keeping our town safe.

Today I’m a truck driver, a Dad, a Unite Union member, and often stand up for my colleagues at work as their voice. Soon I hope I’ll also be serving Wigan as a Justice of the Peace, sitting as a Magistrate.
Protecting and standing up for others is who I am.

I’m active in community life - from litter picking and reporting issues, to volunteering in my parish at Saint Patrick’s and representing Wigan as a delegate at regional Labour conferences, where I’ve presented motions for change such as ending the two child benefit cap.

Why I’m standing: Because Wigan Central deserves a strong local voice.

How I’ll do it: By listening, by fighting for fairness, and by building on labour’s proud tradition of community service.

What you’ll get: A councillor who doesn’t just talk, but rolls up his sleeves and gets the job done. A councillor who remembers the Labour values that run through Wigans veins.

We rise by lifting others. That’s why I’m here.

And fittingly my very name means “a Boon” - a blessing, a bonus, a good thing. I want to be that for Wigan Central

I also know I have some big shoes to fill. Our community has been well served by those who came before me and I take that responsibility Seriously. I’m not here to replace anyone, but to honour that legacy by working hard every single day to be worthy of it - and to carry it forward.
