Statement to voters

For more than 23 years Armley has been my home.

Full statement

It’s where I’ve built my life, my career and friendships that feel like family.

I truly believe in our community – Armley is full of pride, creativity and determination. It’s a place where people look out for each other and where community spirit runs deep.

For many years our Green councillor Lou Cunningham has worked incredibly hard for Armley – standing up for residents, tackling local issues and helping make our neighbourhood cleaner, greener and fairer.

Now we have the chance to build on that progress.

By electing a second Green councillor, Armley can have an even stronger voice at the council – with Lou and I working together year-round to listen to residents, solve problems and stand up for what matters locally.

We have a lot to be proud of, but there are things that need to change and improve, too.

That’s why I’m standing as the Green Party candidate for Armley – for a cleaner, greener, fairer Armley, a place that everyone feels welcome and that people take pride in.

Connections, Creativity, Commitment

Bringing people together has always been at the heart of what I do. Through creative projects, community events and local initiatives, I’ve spent many years helping connect people and celebrate the spirit of Armley.

My commitment to Armley is practical and hands-on. I co-founded a women’s group to help tackle isolation, I’ve supported the work of Armley Helping Hands with older residents, and regularly attend local meetings to understand what matters most to people living here.

Sharing stories, raising voices, creating change

Alongside this community involvement, I’ve spent more than 30 years working in communications, media, filmmaking and photography – including presenting on BBC radio and local TV, creating and delivering health and care campaigns, and work with many charities locally, regionally and nationally.

Throughout my career I’ve focused on helping people share their stories and amplifying voices that are too often unheard and I love finding ways to highlight what makes our neighbourhood unique.

Across Leeds I have volunteered with organisations supporting older LGBTQ+ people and served as a trustee of an adult education centre, championing lifelong learning. Those experiences have strengthened my belief that when communities listen to each other and work together, real and lasting change becomes possible.

Cut carbon, cut bills, connect our community

I believe that climate action should improve everyday life locally as well as protecting our planet, cutting carbon and cutting bills:

  • Warmer homes that reduce energy bills
  • Cleaner streets and greener spaces for health and wellbeing
  • Taking positive and decisive action on littering, dog fouling, fly tipping and missed bin collections
  • Reliable public transport that connects our communities.

There’s no place like home

Armley is the place I call home. I want to help ensure it’s a place where everyone feels welcome, heard and valued, and that everyone can be proud of.

I will listen.
I will connect.
I will work hard and deliver for Armley.

Lou and Clancy’s priorities for Armley

Working alongside Green councillor Lou Cunningham, Clancy will focus on practical improvements for the area:

  • Cleaner streets – tackling litter, fly-tipping and missed bin collections
  • Safer roads and neighbourhoods so everyone feels secure where they live
  • Properly insulated homes that cut energy bills and carbon emissions
  • Reliable public transport that connects communities and saves people money
  • Protecting and improving green spaces for health, wellbeing and local pride
  • Supporting families through the cost-of-living crisis with practical solutions and guiding to support and resources.
