Statement to voters

Dear Resident,

I’m Charlie Anderton, I’m your Green Party candidate for the by-election in Alfrick, Leigh and Rushwick ward taking place on 21 May, and I’d like to introduce myself.

Full statement

I live locally and work for an environmental data charity helping to hold large companies to account on their environmental performance.

Before I moved to the area, I was a Parish councillor in my home village. I valued being part of a thriving local community and I became a Parish councillor because I wanted to give something back. I contributed my enthusiasm and energy, working with other councillors to make the village a better place to live for everyone.

Since moving here, I have been working with the Wildlife Trusts on their youth Environmental Leadership Program for the West Midlands. The programme supports young people from under-represented and underserved communities across the West Midlands. It aims to give young people the skills to enable them to consider careers working with wildlife or the environment.

Outside of my work, I also volunteer for UK Youth for Nature. This is a youth-led campaigning organisation calling for urgent action on the nature crisis. Through this organisation I have been advocating for bolder action to remove water pollutants, forever chemicals and pesticides in public spaces. As part of these campaigns, I have hosted information sessions for MPs and have a better understanding of how our political system works and how to effect change. I work a lot with youth organisations and see that too often young people can’t access the opportunities they need and deserve.

I will speak up for Alfrick, Leigh and Rushwick residents

I have decided to stand as a District Councillor so I can be a strong voice for everyone in our area. My experience as a Parish Councillor has given me a good understanding of Planning and how meaningful consultation with residents works. Key to this is identifying local needs and issues. I am a strong believer that good public transport connections should be a key consideration in housing development as well as ensuring developers deliver what they have promised for the community. I will fight to ensure that any development provides a net benefit to people and planet and make sure your voice is heard.

I can win here

In 2025, the last Worcestershire County Elections, the Green Party won the popular vote in Malvern Hills District. Lots of people are telling us they will be voting Green this time as they don’t want Reform to win.
The Reform-led Worcestershire County Council has increased our council tax by almost 9%, adding to the cost of living pressures for residents in Alfrick, Leigh and Rushwick.

I am independently minded and will speak up for you.

I have the experience, energy and enthusiasm to be your voice. My experience as a Parish Councillor has given me the skills to be both independently minded and able to cooperate in a wider group when the common goal is to benefit residents. Councillors from other parties vote as they are told by their political party. This will
never happen to me.
I do not want to take part in petty politics. I am here to represent you.
With your support I pledge to do my best for you.
My promise to you:
If elected, I will:
• Listen to you, act and keep you informed
• Attend council meetings to ensure you are represented and your voices are heard
• Make sure our council services are accessible and affordable to all residents
• Be the strong voice for everyone in our area
• Work to improve facilities with proper consideration of public transport and other
sustainable travel opportunities
• Protect our green spaces

Yours faithfully
Charlie Anderton
