Statement to voters

As a teacher, I have spent my professional life dedicated to helping young people achieve their potential.

Full statement

As a Head of Modern Foreign Languages in a comprehensive school, now working regionally with schools right across the Gower constituency, I am passionate about raising standards and empowering our communities. I believe that everyone should have the chance to fulfil their potential and prosper, regardless of their background.

I am a hard working, single mother and a former Gower College student. I have not been schooled in professional politics, but I have a deep passion for tackling social injustice. I want to see a strong economy that works for everyone.

I will fight to ensure that Gower gets its fair share of infrastructure, investment and growth because these things underpin prosperity and create jobs. I believe in good jobs which pay fairly, and believe workers should enjoy fair terms and conditions. I will oppose the abusive use of zero-hour contracts. The Tories must stop dragging their heels on the Tidal Lagoon and electrification of the main line to Swansea. I do not trust them to deliver for us.

I am passionate about our NHS and social services. I will work with the Labour Welsh Government to ensure that we do not see the crisis in health and social care that they are experiencing in England. I will oppose any effort to sell off our NHS to the highest bidder. It belongs to you and me.

There are major challenges facing our country - climate change, Brexit, international relations and welfare reform, to name but a few. Major challenges require representatives who are willing and able to think creatively, and to challenge and scrutinise. They require representatives who are accessible, and who are willing to listen. I am all those things.

I will be a Member of Parliament that Gower can be proud of. I will be a strong voice for you, and I will always put Gower first.
