Statement to voters

I’m standing again now because I want to do more to make Harrow the best it can be for everyone locally.

Full statement

When serving as your MP, I made an effort to get involved in the political process in ways which would benefit my constituents, like becoming Chair of the largest All Party Parliamentary Group in Parliament, on Justice for Equitable Life Policyholders, to help the many local pensioners who were caught up in that scandal, and creating the APPG British Hindus to ensure our large Hindu community could get more involved. I have spoken up repeatedly on behalf of our Jewish community, also serving as an Officer of the Conservative Friends of Israel, and I spoke out on behalf of our Kashmiri Pandits who were ethnically cleansed from their homeland.

In Parliament, I emphasised the importance of improving primary healthcare. I helped obtain the funding for the new A&E Department at Northwick Park Hospital, which has helped transform our local hospital on which we all depend. I was also delighted to be able to secure funding for the redevelopment of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, which had been promised for more than 30 years but is now finally being delivered.

Authoring the Homelessness Reduction Act is possibly my proudest moment so far, as I know it is going to make a real difference to the lives of a lot of people in desperate situations. It is certainly my aim to ensure that no one is forced to sleep on our streets and I was pleased that this commitment was made in the Conservative Manifesto.

There is still a lot more to do, so I hope you can support me again on 8th June.
