Statement to voters
I'm your Green Party candidate for Horsham District Council in the Itchingfield, Slinfold and Warnham ward by-election and in the Broadbridge WSCC election.
Full statement
You face an important choice when you go to vote on 7th May. That choice is between the same old parties doing the same old things, or having a representative
on the Council who really represents you. I'm standing against cuts to school funding, for adequate provision of school places and for proper funding for our NHS and social care. I'm standing against building thousands of homes across precious countryside without any of the infrastructure for the people who live there. I'm standing for a reliable rail service that enables people in Horsham to live and work, rather than just work and commute.I’m local, hard-working, and I have the skills to do the job. You may recognise my name. In the last three general elections, I've been your Green Party parliamentary candidate. I've lived in Horsham District since I was two years old. I run my business here, I'm raising my kids here, I use local services and green spaces just like you do.
As someone who grew up in one of Horsham's villages and who now lives in another one, I get fed up when our villages are ignored and neglected, so I'm standing up to do something about it.I am always free to speak up for local residents. Unlike other parties, the Green Party doesn't tell councillors how to vote. I can always put you ahead of party politics and stand up for what's right for Barns Green, Itchingfield, Strood Green, Slinfold, Kingsfold, Warnham and of course Broadbridge.
We all know our area is being overdeveloped. Expensive new houses are built on green fields instead of genuinely affordable houses that local people can rent or buy. Instead of creating barriers across our town and its villages, I want to create opportunities.
After Sumners Fields in Barns Green, more houses are planned on a beautiful village field opposite the Queens Head, while the derelict brownfield former school site in Itchingfield sits empty. I'll speak up for brownfield sites FIRST, proper infrastructure and protection for our green spaces. The Greens already have nine councillors on HDC. Every day they push the Lib Dems to do more. With the two party system broken, the Conservatives and Labour don’t have enough support to win here. With 26 Lib Dems already at HDC, it’s time for another Green! And at WSCC also - we need strong voices speaking up for what really matters!
