Statement to voters

Emily is the Labour MP for Islington South and Finsbury, first elected in 2005.

Full statement

She is Labour's Shadow Attorney General and is one of the longest continually serving members of the shadow cabinet.

In her almost two decades representing Islington South in parliament, Emily has helped thousands of individual constituents and fought for community assets like the Whittington Hospital. She has campaigned tirelessly on national issues of importance to the Islington community, including the housing and climate crises.

As Shadow Attorney General she is working to reform the law on stalking, cohabitation and whistleblowing, to tackle fraud, and to fix charging rates to get justice for victims of crime.

She joined the Labour Party at 17, motivated by her experience being raised on a council estate on benefits by her single parent mother. Before her election she worked as a barrister for twenty years, representing amongst others striking miners, Wapping print-workers and P&O seafarers.
