Statement to voters

Barbara Keeley is Labour’s Parliamentary candidate in Worsley and Eccles South.

Full statement

She has been the MP for Worsley since 2005 and for Worsley and Eccles South since 2010. During her 12 years in Parliament, Barbara has campaigned strongly on many issues, including defending the NHS and social care, and she has also fought locally to protect local Green Belt and green open spaces.

Barbara is Labour's Shadow Minister for Mental Health and Social Care. She has been a strong champion for social care and for unpaid family carers. During the winter crisis in the NHS, Barbara successfully got the crisis in funding for social care onto the national agenda. If she is re-elected, Barbara will fight to get a better funding settlement for social care and for Pensions Justice for 1950s-born women.

Barbara has also played a leading role in the national fight for Pensions Justice for women born in the 1950s who have been hit hard by the Government’s unfair changes to the state pension age.

Before becoming an MP, Barbara was a councillor in Trafford for 9 years where she was council cabinet member for Education and services for children and young people. Barbara has also worked for national and local charities and as a Systems Engineer and Systems Engineering Manager in the IT sector.
