Statement to voters
Helping to improve the quality of life in Buriton & East Meon
I have lived in East Meon for over 20 years, and have been the District Councillor for the past 4 years, so fully understand the benefits and challenges of living in this corner of Hampshire. I became involved in local politics because I’m interested in trying to help improve the lives of our residents. I have worked closely with all three parish councils over the past year to help resolve the issues faced by local people.
Rural East Hampshire is a great place to live, and we are very lucky to be surrounded by the beautiful South Downs National Park. I have represented EHDC on the SDNP Authority for the past four years, and worked hard to build the understanding of how local people can benefit from living in our National Park. I have ensured that SDNP officers have regularly addressed resident groups and parish assemblies in all three parishes.
All three parishes have faced contentious planning issues in the past four years, and I have worked closely with the parish councils to address these issues. I plan to continue working with these parish councils to resolve such issues in the future, and to help address the concerns of residents.
Strong track record for local government co-operation
Being a District Councillor is about working in partnership with the other branches of local government to provide as seamless a service as possible to local residents. For the past two years I have also been the local Hampshire County Councillor, and have provided a seamless service to residents in these two roles.
EHDC has a very good track record for resident satisfaction, and for efficiently providing services to our residents at a reasonable cost. This is the core value of the Conservative Party that I belong to – providing high quality services to local people and providing value for money.
