Full statement
She has lived in her constituency seat of Kingston-upon-Hull West and Hessle for nearly 20 years. Before becoming an MP, Emma was a local primary school teacher for over ten years. She was first elected in 2017 and now sits on the influential Treasury Select Committee and chairs a number of All-Party Parliamentary Groups which reflect her interests in education, social inclusion and women's health. Emma continues to pursue legislative improvements to property flood protection and insurance, driven by the city's devastation in the 2007 floods and the threats of climate change. Her belief in positive local action has seen her establish projects to tackle the cost of school uniform and to increase urban biodiversity. In 2022 she launched "Work Hull, Work Happy," which aims to establish Hull as the remote working capital of the UK.
