Statement to voters

Simon Hughes, who lives just off the Old Kent Road, has spent more than 30 years fighting for our community.

Full statement

He is a tried and tested constituency MP with experience of getting things done. Simon looks after all of the people all of the time. Nearly everybody knows somebody who has been helped by Simon Hughes.
Simon was the first generation of his family to go to university, then studied at the College of Europe and worked as a barrister until elected to Parliament in 1983. During his 32 years in parliament, Simon was given several awards including Most Motivated MP and Green MP of the Year. In addition to his duties as a constituency MP, he has served on the Joint Committee on Human Rights, as Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats and Minster of State for civil liberties, responsible for family courts and mediation.

He is a community campaigner on transport issues, affordable housing and protecting the NHS, and a proud internationalist. Simon fought hard to keep Britain in the European Union and the Liberal Democrats are now the only party fighting to give the people (not politicians) a say on the final deal.
