Statement to voters

The referendum result has completely changed British politics and it’s time for a change in Walsall North.

Full statement

Unlike Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour candidate, I campaigned for leave vote alongside nearly three quarters of voters in Walsall North. I am on your side and want to make that change happen.

Now, under the strong leadership of Theresa May, we have an opportunity to shape our future and make a success of Brexit. I want a Brexit that works for everyone in Bloxwich and Willenhall; protecting and creating new jobs across Walsall. I want to take control of immigration, whilst making sure that we can deliver the skills needed to keep our economy and public services strong.

I will work with the new West Midlands Mayor, Andy Street, to get more affordable houses built in Walsall North. Owning a home is a dream for many and I support Theresa May’s efforts to help young first-time buyers get on the housing ladder.

More houses need to be built but shouldn’t come at the expense of green spaces around our community. I pledge to work to ensure that old, derelict brownfield sites and empty offices are used to provide new homes. We need a strong economy to deliver and must not allow Jeremy Corbyn to put Walsall’s economy at risk.

As the son of a bus driver, I know what it takes to make ends meet. I pledge to work hard and be a strong local MP, championing your needs in Westminster.
