Statement to voters

Stuart Anderson is an Army veteran who overcame the trauma of getting shot to become an entrepreneur.

Full statement

He now pioneers new technology in the security industry in the West Midlands.

Whilst serving in the Army aged only 17, Stuart suffered a high-velocity gunshot wound to the foot. He was initially told his foot and possibly his lower leg would be amputated, but the weeks of surgery went better than expected and his leg was saved. He was then informed that his military career was over, he would never run again and would only ever walk with the aid of a walking stick.

Stuart didn’t accept this and undertook extensive rehabilitation and within one year, through relentless pain, determination and hard work returned to full service within the Army, going straight to active duty on the streets of Northern Ireland. He went on to complete eight years in the Royal Green Jackets (now the Rifles), including three operational tours undertaking some of the toughest physical challenges in the world. Stuart has had the privilege of getting to share his remarkable story as a guest speaker at events and even on national television.

After leaving the Forces, Stuart worked in the defence and security industry, operating in over 50 locations around the globe. He has briefed heads of the military and operated as a bodyguard for a foreign Prime Minister. He is currently the founder and CEO of a multi award winning company, using this experience to pioneer technology to help companies keep employees safe when travelling.

For over 15 years Stuart served in the local community, and different charities, from fundraising for underprivileged children, to serving at homeless shelters. A key highlight has been serving as a military champion and helping those who have given so much.

Stuart also ran 79 miles in under 24 hours over every mountain in South Wales. Raising money for a minibus for underprivileged children in Herefordshire. This was after he was told that he would never run again after getting shot.

Stuart has witnessed many different political situations around the world, from western democracy to the streets of Baghdad. This has all helped shape his desire to enter the political arena. Stuart was elected a County Councillor in 2017 gaining a large majority in a seat never previously held by the Conservatives. His wealth of experience makes him an excellent candidate to serve the residents of Wolverhampton South West.
