In fact, I only joined in 2014 – surprisingly already 12 years ago.
Although I’m a teacher, I’m now semi-retired as I was recently acting as a full-time carer for my wife who died last year.
Ever since studying the ecology section of my geography degree in the late 1960s, I have been very aware of the intimate and often delicate connections between all life forms and their environment. This, of course, includes us humans, who have an unfortunate tendency to cause all manner of imbalances in our environment, leading not only to destruction of local habitats and the extinction of many species, but also to the possible catastrophic effects of climate change and plastic pollution.
In the late 80s, my wife and I became passionate recyclers and were aghast at how slow progress in this field has been in this country. Ealing residents may well be amazed that many local authorities, even in London, don’t provide separate food waste collection. At least that’s one thing we can congratulate Ealing for!
Other than this, I am particularly interested in housing issues (there are far too many empty properties), as well as the worsening scourge of fly-tipping which I believe needs far stronger action.
