Statement to voters

I am 78 years old and have been resident in the London Borough of Bromley since 1979 (in Penge).

Full statement

I joined Bromley Green Party in 2017, based on the belief in the need to support Nature, and the need to avoid unnecessary consumption involving fossil fuel use and the damage to the Earth's ecosystem through increasing the carbon dioxide load on the atmosphere. We need to avoid waste, especially of plastics which can take millennia to disappear from our environment. We need to nurture our soils, which are being degraded very rapidly, and rebalance our food system.
To this end I have an allotment which provides healthy food, though obviously I am not self-sufficient. We must reduce fuel-consuming transport; to this end I cycle wherever feasible, otherwise mainly use public transport.

As far as local policies are concerned, I am in favour of 20mph speed limits in built-up areas, mainly to avoid deaths; increasing of taxes on larger, heavier cars, which cause disproportionate damage to road surfaces, problems of congestion and road deaths; construction of public housing at
affordable rents for people who will never afford purchasing a home, and more effective waste management.

This statement was added by Geoff Allen, their team, or by a Democracy Club volunteer, based on information published by the candidate elsewhere.
