The Tories have starved our public services of the resources they desperately need and privatisation only makes matters worse, as do the tax breaks they’ve given to the very wealthiest at the expense of everyone else.

That’s wrong. Labour is determined to establish a fairer society, where opportunities to succeed are there for everyone; to have fulfilled lives with open access to lifelong education and training to secure the skills our country needs; to be paid a decent wage; to rent or buy a good affordable home; enjoy a secure retirement and be able to rely on fully funded health and social care services; to know that our streets are safer with the promise of 10,000 more police officers on the front line.

As we leave the EU, our people need to be safe and for jobs and prosperity, our businesses need unrestricted access to our biggest export market right on our doorstep.

The people of Middlesbrough know their history and they know their roots are they are not going to forget either in a hurry.

The misery of austerity has been used by the Tories as a smokescreen for them to do as they always do - protect and benefit the very richest in society at everyone else’s expense. It’s time to clear the smoke away and bring about the changes that Labour will deliver, to benefit the many, not the few.
