Full statement
Anne says, “We are now seeing the effect of climate change in ever more extreme weather which has devastating effects on homes, livelihoods and travel.“ I want local climate action focusing on better buses and trains when people need them, insulation for warmer homes and a public energy company which keeps money in the area and reduces poverty. Anne was a children’s speech therapist working with children with additional needs.
She is Convenor of the charity Transition Black Isle which runs community markets encourages people to grow food, an energy saving project, encourages active travel and now runs the Black Isle Library of Things including a Bike Library and other active travel projects.
Anne helped lead successful campaigns to persuade the Highland Council to declare a climate emergency, and exclude climate damaging companies from pension investments.
She is a Trustee of Highland People’s Power which is running a project to provide solar on the roofs of community buildings, reducing their energy costs and climate impact and also seeks community ownership of renewables rather than all the profits going elsewhere. She is Treasurer of Highland Cycle Campaign which advocates and lobbies for better cycling provision. She has delivered projects to cut the environmental impact of food, travel and energy e.g solar panels for my church.”
She is Vice Chair of North Kessock Residents Association which runs North Kessock Community Larder which cuts food waste and helps people make ends meet.
Anne says "I am already delivering for the community. As your MSP I could do even more. I want to build a world worth living in for my grand-children, where people and nature can thrive"
