Statement to voters

I was born in Luton and raised in Wigmore, and I am proud to still call this community my home.

Full statement

Standing as your candidate is deeply personal to me because I care about the future of the place that shaped my life.

In recent years, more and more people have recognised that the Green Party offers something different. We are not just about protecting the environment, we are about doing politics differently, with practical, people-focused policies that can genuinely transform our country for the better.

Wigmore is facing serious challenges, and I believe it is time for a strong local voice that will stand up and act.

Our ward is under real threat from large-scale, unrestricted developments. The expansion of the airport and associated plans risk fundamentally changing the character of our area. Proposed changes, such as turning Wigmore Lane into a four-lane road past Wigmore Primary School, raise serious concerns for safety, congestion, and quality of life.

At the same time, new housing developments are being planned without the necessary infrastructure. With over 2,100 homes potentially relying on already congested roads through Wigmore, the pressure on our community will only increase.

We are also facing an ongoing air pollution crisis. Traffic congestion must be reduced and managed responsibly, not pushed deeper into residential areas. If we do not act now, Wigmore risks becoming unrecognisable from the place we know and love.

My Priorities and Commitments

If elected, I will work tirelessly for a fairer, greener, and healthier Wigmore. My key pledges are:

  1. Protect Wigmore from overdevelopment: I will challenge inappropriate large-scale developments and push for proper planning that puts residents first.

  2. Oppose unsafe road expansion: I will stand against plans that put children and families at risk, including the proposed widening of Wigmore Lane near schools.

  3. Tackle traffic and congestion: I will campaign for smarter transport solutions that reduce congestion and keep heavy traffic away from residential streets.

  4. Fight air pollution: I will push for urgent action to improve air quality and protect the health of our community.

  5. Stand up for local residents: I will ensure that any new housing developments come with proper infrastructure and do not overwhelm existing communities.

  6. Support health and wellbeing: I will advocate for better investment in the NHS, social care, and local health services.

  7. Address inequality and poverty: I will work to reduce the inequalities that affect too many lives in our area.

  8. Invest in young people and skills: I will support training and opportunities in green industries, giving our young people hope and a future.

I will work constructively with others on Luton Council to deliver real change. Our community deserves better, and I am committed to being a strong, honest voice for Wigmore.

I hope to make history as the first Green Party councillor in Luton, building on the growing support for a new kind of politics that puts people, community, and the future first.

From Wigmore, for Wigmore.
