Full statement
A district councillor in South Derbyshire since 2015, David was elected to represent Melbourne at Derbyshire County Council in 2021. Over the last 4 years David has been on hand helping local residents with their issues and concerns. He holds a monthly advice surgery at Melbourne Assembly Rooms and regularly attends parish council meetings across the division.
Over the past four years, David has been able help various organisations and groups across the divisions with over £10,000 in grants. Organisations in Melbourne, Ticknall and Hartshorne have all benefited in various ways and if re-elected he will support as many worthy causes and projects as possible. David is determined to ensure that appropriate infrastructure is in place to service increased housing requirements across the area. He has grave concerns about building on greenbelt sites and flood plains and has publicly expressed his views on the matter, believing that appropriate supportive infrastructure is at odds with the Government’s demand for increased house building.
The consequences of this lack of facilities, David says, will have a detrimental effect on the quality of life in Derbyshire. The demands placed key services provided by Derbyshire County Council such as Adult Care and Children’s Services, including the effect of illegal immigration, are challenges we have to address in the coming months.
David is also keen to ensure that highways and road safety concerns are addressed. Fixing potholes is a key Conservative priority ensuring safer roads and reducing vehicle damage. He is committed to securing funding and working closely with the County Council’s Highways Department to deliver timely repairs and improve road safety and travel conditions for everyone in our community. If re-elected, he will continue to tackle issues of speeding by encouraging the use of Speed Indicator Devices and local Speed Watch Groups. Anti-social behaviour, fly-tipping, littering and dog fouling across the division remain issues of concern. David believes we must all work together to protect our environment.
