Full statement
These are just some of the priorities I will address as I stand to be your new Member of Parliament for Huntingdon.
As a former British Army Infantry Officer I am proud of my service. I commissioned from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and served both as a Platoon Commander in Iraq and embedded as a liaison with the Afghan National Army in Afghanistan, defending our values. My time in the Army taught me about leadership. It taught me about when to lead and when to listen. Now, as a veteran, I know how crucially that leadership is needed in our politics.
Growing up I knew what real hardship was. Having experienced it first-hand I can empathise with those who are struggling now, I have been there myself. I recognise how life can be difficult and why it is therefore important to have politicians who do too.
As your MP I will be a visible, accessible and active member of the local community, embedded in all aspects of local life. Many of you will have met me already, on the doorstep or out and about in the town, spoken to someone who's met me or seen me out walking the dog. I live in Huntingdon and know the issues we face here in the constituency, not only in Huntingdon but also across our villages and rural communities.
Huntingdon is a town that is set to grow significantly over the next decade, bringing with it the opportunity to create thriving towns and vibrant villages across the constituency. But alongside that growth it is also vital that we maintain and upgrade our infrastructure to support it, ensuring our roads and public transport can cope with a larger population, that public transport links our towns with our villages and new developments; that everyone can access GP and dentistry services; that working people have good quality employment opportunities. With the right plan Huntingdon can become a real success story.
In this election Huntingdon needs a strong MP who will champion this area. I will always put the needs of local people first. I will represent us all in Westminster.
With the right plan Huntingdon can become a real success story.
But it also needs the right MP.
