Statement to voters
My name is Mustafa Ahmed, and I’ve lived with my family on the Wensley Estate for over 25 years.
Full statement
I am proud to be standing in the upcoming council elections to offer Burngreave a clear alternative to Labour and to stand up for our community. I know our area well – and I care deeply about it.
My work for our community
For many years, I’ve been actively involved in improving life for local residents.
- Within our Tenants and Residents Association, I’ve worked to make residents’ voices heard and get local priorities met.
- I’ve helped many neighbours access crucial support systems, such as housing advice, health services and family support.
- For the Wensley Park Restoration project, I helped raise nearly £40,000 to improve our community space.
- Volunteering with Sheffield Grand Mosque, we’ve delivered community programmes, youth activities, and educational trips that strengthen community spirit.
- Through the Fee Sabilillah Funeral Service, I support bereaved families during their most difficult times.
- I’ve connected many neighbours to crucial support networks, and I often help run volunteer events like litter-picking, children’s activities, and awareness campaigns because small actions make a big difference.
- I’ve run or assisted at many projects within our community, from litter picking to awareness campaigns to children’s activities
- While out in our area, I have been reporting fly-tipping and pressuring the council to take action
I can win and bring hope back to Sheffield
Our mosques, churches and community spaces are places where people from all backgrounds come together, and this diversity is the very heart of Burngreave. But in the last few years, Labour has stoked racism with its anti-immigrant policies. They have chosen to build more weapons instead of funding the NHS. They have neglected local communities like ours. And even now, they still permit weapons sales to Israel and collaborate with the Israeli military.
I believe politics should unite people, not divide them. That’s why I am standing in May, because no one should feel ignored by those in power. You deserve a voice that will fight for our community and our future.
As your councillor, I will:
- Listen to residents and respond to concerns
- Protect vital local services
- Work for safer streets and cleaner neighbourhoods
- Support young people and families
- Champion investment in our parks and green spaces
This election is about who will work for you all year round — not just at election time.
With your support, we can build a stronger, fairer society together.
IT’S BETWEEN GREENS AND LABOUR HERE
This election is set to be really close between the Greens and the Labour Party – make sure your vote counts.
