Statement to voters

I’ve lived in Lambeth for several years as a local private renter, where I and a rotating cast of flatmates have put down roots as best we can.

Full statement

I’m a keen gardener, although I”m not very good yet.

I’ve joined and helped lead campaigns for a fairer, kinder society that puts people and planet first. As a union rep, I joined efforts to organise under-unionised workplaces with IWGB – especially for migrant workers, who are particularly vulnerable to exploitation from their employers. Especially now, with a rising far right and all our rights under attack, we need to organise together for safe workplaces and to protect each other.

As a climate activist with Green New Deal Rising, I’ve been part of demands for a wealth tax, proper investment in a green transition, and better future for young people from sit-ins outside the Treasury and protests outside Reform UK’s headquarters to donning a monopoly man head to expose the firms lobbying for Britain’s super rich (the head was difficult to see out of).

I’ve worked on anti-inequality campaigns for years, helping create action plans for local government that can make our neighbourhoods more equal, APPG reports on the cruel impacts of proposed benefit cuts, and research papers outlining the enormous costs of the UK’s high inequality.

I’m truly passionate about reducing inequality of wealth and power, and especially in Lambeth – one of the most unequal areas in the UK – I want to see Lambeth actual building social homes and local wealth, instead of begging for scraps from private developers and the sovereign wealth fund of Abu Dhabi; real power over our own lives with projects like participatory budgeting; and residents given a real voice, whether that’s over the long neglect of Streatham High Road or action on atrocities like Gaza.

I’m campaigning on issues like reopening the Streatham police base, tackling the betting and vape shops on the High Road or the empty ones around Greyhound Lane, and making our public spaces inviting and green.
