Statement to voters

I'm Byran Driver, your local Green Party campaigner for Sutton & Mount Gould.

Full statement

I'm proud to be standing in the local elections here on Thursday 7th May. It's been great meeting so many of you and working to get things done for our community. If you're still deciding how to vote this May, here are a few reasons to consider voting for me.

I've lived in Plymouth all my life, but Sutton and Mount Gould made me who I am. My grandparents lived in Teats Hill. I grew up doing beach cleans at Coxside and even broke my arm in the local play park. As a young adult I moved to Sutton and Mount Gould to build my life and career.

After training in the Territorial Army, I went on to work as a carer for the elderly. I later moved into children's social care, where I work today. I know this area. I love this area. I want to help improve local services and help our community flourish as your councillor.

I got into politics because I could see how local government is failing our communities and wanted to roll up my sleeves to help make things better. I've already been working hard on the issues you care about - from reporting blocked drains and flooding to potholes, damaged play equipment, fly-tipping and litter. I'm also calling on the Council to save the much-loved Tothill Community Centre. As your councillor, I could do even more.

With 19 seats up for election on Plymouth City Council this May, whatever happens, Labour will still control the council. But by voting for me, you can elect a hard-working local councillor who will stand up for our area - not a Labour or Reform councillor who will have to follow the party line.

Labour's vote share is collapsing. Greens and Reform are surging in support. The latest data suggests the race in Sutton & Mount Gould is close between the Greens and Reform. It could come down to just a few votes. I can win but it'll be close with Reform, so please use your vote to elect a community champion who has a record of hard work locally.
