Statement to voters
I live in Upperthorpe and I have lived around Walkley and Upperthorpe for nearly 20 years.
Full statement
I’m proud to live here and proud to be your local councillor.
Together with my colleagues Councillor Laura McClean and Councillor John Wright, I have a track record of getting things done locally. I have secured £2.7m investment to upgrade the Zest Centre. I’m holding Yorkshire Water to account for their leaking pipes. I have secured new pedestrian crossings and investment for affordable housing. New council homes are being built in Walkley right now. And as Leader of the Council, I agreed the deal to keep the World Snooker Championships in Sheffield until at least 2045.
My priorities are:
- ENDING bus privatisation and bringing public transport back under public control. And Labour will bring in FREE bus and tram travel for everyone aged 18 and under.
- BUILDING new homes with 1,000 new council houses that are safe, secure and affordable.
- INVESTING in solar panels for schools to cut school energy bills so that more money can be invested in children’s education. Walkley Primary is one of the first to benefit.
- ALWAYS opposing racism and hate and celebrating our city’s diversity.
Sheffield is moving forward. But this is at risk. Reform UK are standing across Sheffield, including here in Walkley ward. They would rip our communities apart and take us backwards. I’m proud to live in a welcoming, inclusive community. We have to defend this and as your councillor, I always will. Vote for me to stop Reform. We can't let them in.
This election isn't about Westminster. It's about our streets, our communities and our city. My track record shows that I get things done and work hard for you all year round. I will always be a local champion for Walkley, Upperthorpe and Netherthorpe.
I’m asking for your support on May 7th. A vote for me is a vote for unity and a practical plan to get things done.
Vote to stop Reform. Vote for a local champion. Vote Tom Hunt
