Stephen has been chosen as West Leigh's Liberal Democrat candidate for the Southend City Council Election on 4th May, to take the place of Cllr Beth Hooper who is not standing due to family illness.

If elected, this will be Stephen's first time as a Southend City Councillor, but he is already well known to many local people. He has lived in the area for more than 20 years, getting involved wherever possible. Stephen's daughter, Lia - now at the University of London - went to Eastwood Academy, and Stephen served as a school governor there for a number of years. Stephen will work with Southend's other Liberal Democrat Councillors, including in neighbouring Leigh Ward, to ensure the best support for West Leigh residents.

As a Magistrate and Presiding Justice at the Central & East London Family Courts, Stephen Cummins knows the value of listening, and gaining a full understanding of every problem. He says: "I'm always happy for a chat and look forward to meeting as many residents and local organisations as I can over the coming months and years, and seeing what I can do to raise the concerns and interests of local people."
